appRenaissance Philadelphia, PA

Purveyors of inspired, hand-crafted mobile applications. Inventors of ingenious mobile tools and infrastructure.

At appRenaissance, our work harkens back to a time when products were carefully handcrafted. When making something was as much art and inspiration as it was science and technology. Before the days of mass production and robots and uniformity. When each product was a project unto itself. Each product was considered individually and holistically. And each product was a triumph of creativity, ingenuity and craftsmanship. Scroll down to learn more!

Interact: The Reason to Connect

interact is a powerful geosocial interaction app that not only visualizes how you're connected to other people but gives you the reasons why you'd want to connect with them.

interact's Comp Score is a visual representation of those most relevant to you. Tap on their picture and see exactly how you know each other. Do you know some of the same people? Are you from the same hometown or high school? Do you share the same interest in an obscure piece of literature? interact shows all this and more in one easy to read graphic. Chat with them in real-time and make a new friend.

With interact, the user determines why they're using the app at any given time.

Kevin Clough - Vice President of Enterprise Development / Senior Software Developer

Kevin is a mobile development guru, spending much of his time outside of actual coding and strategy on either optimizing processes or learning new languages and frameworks. In addition to his UX prowess, Kevin's skillset includes: ASP.net, C#, jQuery, Javascript, Objective-C, Ruby on Rails and SQL Server. He has a passion for technology and has worked with multiple startups and enterprise businesses in the greater Philadelphia area. Kevin has worked in the areas of eCommerce, mobile development, desktop development, cloud computing, automated trading, financial modeling and reporting. He thrives on designing/building new avenues that allow people to easily access the information that matters to them, as well as finding new ways to successfully bring clients' products to the market. Kevin believes that a well thought out user experience is the most paramount feature of any software solution. We agree.

Client Roster: MIDI Labs, Collages.net, Hirtle Callaghan & Co. and FizzLaw.

Interests: Kevin enjoys working on mobile applications (good thing, right?) and learning new languages/frameworks. In his spare time, he's an aspiring Joust and Robotron 2084 champion who seeks the best burger in Philadelphia (in addition to finding the best burger off beaten path restaurants whenever he travels).

Adam Duke - Vice President Mobile Engineering

Former Oracle Engineer, Lead Developer, Infor Global Solutions

Adam is a true Code Mercenary with an endless desire to learn new technologies and optimize the process. He's experienced in leading product development and playing well with others, inspired by collaborative code share and resolution. Adam is well versed in Java, Ruby, C, Objective-C and C# and places high priority on following best practices, accepted design patterns and minimizing code redundancy. Some of his specialties include: Ant, Hibernate, Hudson, Java, Linux, Maven, Shell Scripting, Spring, WebSphere and WebLogic. "Focused" is an understatement – we've seen Adam troubleshoot for hours in a room full of drunken art enthusiasts. Adam holds a BS in Computer Science from Widener University.

Client Roster: YOU

Interests: Adam is pro-Agile and enjoys contributing to Open Source projects and attending Tech community events. When he's not doing that, he's listening to metal or engaging in death-defying Motocross.

Brian Feeley – Senior Interactive Designer

Brian plays a key role in appRen's creative and strategic execution process. With 20+ years of experience and a skilled passion for photography, Brian is no stranger to taking initial ideas and turning them into exemplary visual and functional manifestations. His specialties include interactive design, user experience and art direction, all of which sprouted from his Visual Communications studies at Delcastle Technical High School. From his beginnings in package design and video game graphics to his current expertise in interactive design and mobile usability, Brian's got 360 talent.

Kevin Jenkins – Senior Mobile Developer

Kevin is a code-mastering inventor at heart. Starting out in Radiation Oncology while in undergrad/grad, he wrote custom image analysis tools to analyze tissue section, PET, Ultrasound and MRI data. Looking to try his hand at entrepreneurial ventures, Kevin also successfully co-founded Hipster City Cycle [ http://www.hipstercitycycle.com/ ] and therein began his exploration into Objective-C and iOS game design/development. Since then, Kevin's become an iOS whiz, fluent in Objective-C, C++, C, Java, Matlab, Javascript, PHP and SQL. He finds great value in collaboration and looks forward to digging into anything and everything. Kevin holds a BSE/MSE in Computer Science Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Dan Koch – Senior Architect

Dan has been around, but in the good way. In days past he’s served as a software architect, technical lead, project manager and advisor. But Dan's métier is the long play, the end-to-end game. Starting with a blank sheet of paper, determining what the product should be, and building something that will stand with the strength of Atlas that exudes Middleware magic. Dan is proficient in C, C#, Objective C, ASP.NET, Java (including J2EE and Spring), Python (including Django), RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL), Document-based Databases (Mongo DB), Javascript, CSS and Ruby on Rails. He is also the impresario behind The Reckoner (www.thereckoner.net), an internet media startup servicing more than 16,000 users per month. Interests: Dan has an unhealthy amount of baseball knowledge retained in his brain. The same holds true of film, urban history and just about anything else he can get his hands on. When he's outside, there's a dangerously high likelihood that he'll have a Whiffle Ball bat in hand. Stay alert.

Aaron Kuehler - Senior Mobile Engineer

Former Oracle Engineer, Developer, Infor Global Solutions

Aaron's success in building clever iOS applications is as consistent, if not more, than his ability to camouflage himself in a black hoodie/desk chair combo. He's also fluent in Java, Objective-C, Clojure, Ruby, Groovy, Common Lisp, C++, and C# and his Oracle background fueled key contributions to the development of appRen's Unifeed platform. Aaron's also got bragging rights for heading up the web application development of AdminServer Policy Administration System (Version 9), which was acquired by Oracle in 2008 and has since become Oracle’s premier policy administration offering.
